Episode 5 with Angel Austin

“There are people hoping for, and betting on, the deaths of fat people.”

Angel Austin on radically fatphobic online forums

Show Notes

It’s dangerous to be fat, especially infinifat or superfat. In this episode Angel Austin (she/her/hers) takes us through the appalling discovery of finding herself on a website dedicated to doxxing, harassing, and betting on the death dates of fat people. This discussion is important and also really hard to hear, so please consider that when choosing to listen.

Here’s the article that Angel mentions by Val & Co.: On The Topic Of Fat Hate: Resources and Community Awareness.

Angel Austin is the Black, infinifat, and disabled founder of Sacred Space for Fat Bodies. She is dedicated to the creation of and increased access to self-care experiences for superfats and infinifats. She fights to make their voices heard and for their overall well-being, as they are often excluded from participation and representation, even within the framework of fat liberation. Her lived experiences give her a unique and helpful perspective. She enjoys writing, singing, and cuddling with her giant Rottweiler puppy, Boomer Bronson Austin. She lives in Austin, Texas with her partner of almost 12 years.
